There are great public and private universities in Canada. The tuition fees for both are different and public universities are on average lesser when it comes to tuition with costs ranging between 7500 and 22,000 per year. The cost for private universities are on average 38,185 according to 2021 statistics.

The University of Toronto is a public research university in Toronto

This is an open-to-the-public research university. It was founded in 1827 as kings college making it the oldest college in the province. There are close to 80 percent students at the undergraduate level. There are a total of three campuses located in St George, Scarborough and Mississauga. 95 percent of the graduate students study at the St George’s campus and more than 60 percent are at the undergraduate level. There are students from more than 160 countries that represents the university. China and India make up for the most non Canadian student bodies.

The several areas of study at the university include management, public health, and applied sciences . There are 700 undergraduate programs and close to 200 plus graduate and PHD programs. The primary mode of instruction is english. Student housing is available to students and a guaranteed for all in the first year of under-graduation. Insulin was discovered in the 1920’s within the university. There are more than 44 libraries in total. There are around 74,500 students in total, with 16,200 of them being international students. The academic staff is 3716 with 1331 as international staff. The total number of research staff is 2528. It’s rank as of 2021 is #17 in the entire world. The university ranks #6 in Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems, #10 in Cell Biology, #8 in Arts and Humanities. Psychology, Medical Technology, Human and Biological Sciences, Automation and Control, Sociology are other famous subjects that the university is known for.

McGill University

The university was established in 1821 and is based in Quebec . The two campuses are the Montreal campus and the Macdonald campus based in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. English is the principal language of education. The university is represented by students from over 150 nations.1/4 of the student body is international. There are around 300 programs of study in total .Around two-thirds of the students are undergraduates. International students pay a higher tuition.

The university’s medical school is the oldest in Canada.There are more than 40 research centres in the university. The first artificial blood cell was made here, and it is considered one of the university’s top research achievements. The Alumni network of 250,000 people around the world makes it one of the largest in all.The Centre for Bioinformatics, the Centre on Population Dynamics, and the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy are among McGill University’s well-known research centres.The total number of students are 31,500 with 9,800 international students, 2460 academic staff and 760 of them being international staff. The total number of research staff stood at 861. The school ranks #51 at the global level and #3 in Canada. The university has the highest number of PHD students of all universities in Canada. The top subjects taught by the university are English (Drama and Theatre), International Development studies, Political Science, Physics, Economics and geography.

University of British Columbia

This is a research university that is open to the public.The Vancouver and Kelowna campuses are located in the cities of Vancouver and Kelowna, respectively. Vancouver being the larger of the two campuses and home to more than 85 percent of the student body. There is a total 55,359 students in the University out of which 18,105 are international students . A total of 2836 academic staff and 1220 being international staff. The housing on campus is guaranteed for first year undergraduate students.

The primary language teaching at both the campuses is english . The UBC primary research facilities includes the TRIUMF subatomic physics laboratory, The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm as well as the Institute for Healthy Living and Chronic Disease Prevention. A total of 9912 undergraduate degrees are awarded, 2893 Master’s degrees and 1036 Doctoral degrees. The total number of research staff is 840. The university ranks 31 in global rankings for universities. The top majors offered by the university is Medicine, Biotechnology, Economics (Bsc), Behavioural Neurosciences and Law. The institution is ranked fifth in the world in geography, third in sports-related disciplines, ninth in mining and mineral engineering, and sixteenth in psychology.

McMaster University

The university was established in 1887. This is a public research university based out of Hamilton, Canada . The campuses are located in Burlington, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and Niagara. The area of the college is 121 hectares . The student represent more than 75 countries worldwide and the full time faculty members are from more than 55 countries. The six main academic divisions of the university includes Health Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, De Groot school of Business and Social Sciences.

English is the principal language of education. There are now 70 international academic treaties in place. Among the key research institutes are the Centre for Health Economics Policy Analysis, the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy, and the McMaster e-business research centre. A research based nuclear reactor is also present within the university. One fifth part of Albert Einstein’s brain is placed in a jar where the McMaster neuroscientists study it and other specimens. The total student body equals 25,285 with 4639 international students. Academic staff is a total of 829 out of which 363 are international staff. The total number of research staff is 297. McMaster University ranks #133 in the world in total universities. The university ranks #35 in Clinical medicine, #26 in Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems.

University of Alberta (Edmonton)

The university was founded in 1908. 80 percent of the university students are at the undergraduate level. A total of five campuses makes up the university. Four of them are in Edmonton. The main North Campus is 50 city blocks in size. The Augustana campus is Camrose’s fifth campus.This campus has only about 1000 students and the focus is mainly on liberal arts and sciences.

There are major streams taught in the university such as arts, engineering, business and medicine. The main language of instruction across all disciplines is English, except for the Saint-Jean campus where French is the primary language of instruction. International students account for more than 20% of the student body at the Edmonton campus.University housing is available for graduate and undergraduate students at the Edmonton and Augustana campus.

The University of Alberta was linked with notable research institutions such as the National Institute for Nanotechnology, which is a multidisciplinary institute.More than 400 agreements for teaching, research, and exchange with schools and other institutions across the world, including the University of Western Australia and the University of Munich.The global rank of the university is #138 and #5 in Canada. Sciences, Humanities, business, Creative arts, health sciences and engineering are the major streams of study at the university. The total academic staff stands at 2764 . In total there are 500 graduate and 388 undergraduate programs.
